One of the largest independent bingo operators in Great Britain, Carlton Clubs is an indigenous Scottish company with a remarkable 69-year corporate history. Originally part of Taylor Clark plc, the bingo operation began trading as “Carlton Clubs” following a management buy-out in 1998.
Under the new ownership, a multi-million pound investment programme was put in place to upgrade the bingo clubs on an on-going basis. This included the major refurbishment of the Company’s clubs in Glasgow, East Kilbride and Livingston. In 2001, Carlton Clubs acquired a new site in Inverness for its first purpose-built, stand alone, bingo club in Scotland. All of this investment in Scotland was funded from the Company’s own internally generated revenues. In December 2003 Carlton Clubs signed a deal with Grosvenor Developments to acquire a 3.3-acre site on Fife Leisure Park, Dunfermline, adjacent to the M90 motorway, for a second new bingo club.
With it's Registered Office still based in its hometown of Inverness, Carlton clubs has evolved and grown to a £20 million turnover organisation with 16 clubs across Scotland and England and over 500 staff. The company adheres to strong ethical principles of social responsibility towards its customers, suppliers, staff and the local community. It regularly raises and distributes monies to local charities and supports the arts and culture through its sponsorship of The Highland Festival and the Eden Court Theatre. To date, more than £20,000 has been raised by both staff and customers for Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres. During 2005, Carlton Clubs raised over £23,000 for Bingo for Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity and this again is the chosen charity during 2006 - as supported by the Bingo Association.
In December 2003 Carlton Clubs became the first bingo company in the UK to be awarded a GamCare certificate of Social Responsibility.
